When you’re on an RV vacation, you probably don’t want to have to think about doing daily tasks, but cooking remains an essential part of your routine. Preparing food in your RV kitchen is more economical and healthier than choosing convenience foods or getting take-out from fast-food restaurants. Here are some strategies to make this job a little bit easier.
Use Your Slow Cooker
Slow cookers are a great tool anywhere, but they’re especially practical for preparing hot meals in your RV. Just put in your meat, broth, spices, and vegetables in the morning, turn on the cooker, go outside and enjoy the day, and return later to a delicious and wholesome dinner. You can fix soups, stews, pasta dishes, and even some desserts in your slow cooker.
Batch-Cook at Home
If you’d like to make things really easy, you can take a weekend before your trip to prepare hot dishes in large batches in your home kitchen. Divide these up into individual portions in containers and put them in your RV’s freezer. Now all you’ll need to do is remove the containers, put the food in the microwave, and add some fresh salad or bread to make a meal. Lasagna, stews, chilis, rice bakes, casseroles, and many other dishes lend themselves well to this.
Clean As You Go
Because your RV’s kitchen doesn’t have a great deal of space in it, you’ll need to give yourself more room by putting away ingredients after you use them, rinsing cutting boards and knives, and setting pans aside to soak. Wipe down spills immediately and compost all your cuttings. This will cut down on how much work you have to do after dinner, too.
